Fritz Rustemeyer (* 14. October 1898 in Upper Green , † 3. November 1965 in Iserlohn ) was a German politician of the SPD .

As a wandering craftsman, the trained locksmith had gained a deep insight into the social needs of the working population. He became involved in the trade union and the SPD early on . In 1929 he was elected as a social democratic member of the Iserlohn Council.

After the NSDAP came to power , he was imprisoned immediately in 1933 and interned first in Buchenwald concentration camp and later in Dachau concentration camp . An interim "probation in the Wehrmacht" led to another internment in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp in July 1944 .

Fritz Rustemeyer survived the evacuation of the camp by the SS and was rescued together with the last survivors by the Americans and Russians in April / May 1945. Despite his severely weakened health, he immediately resumed work for the common good. In 1946 he became union secretary for the Iserlohn district. In 1950 he became mayor, and from 1956 to 1961 mayor of Iserlohn .

“After 1933 I had to spend six years in prisons and concentration camps because of my convictions. Fritz Rustemeyer was married to Anna geb. Weller (1909-1989).
