The Fritz Schulz jun. AG Chemical factories and siliceous chalk mines, sheet metal packings - and cardboard factories was a manufacturer of cleaning, care and pesticides and packaging in Leipzig ; it was founded in 1878 as oHG Fritz Schulz jun., Leipzig .
Company history
The construction of the Ingolstadt – Neuoffingen railway in 1873 and 1874 brought a great boost to the mining of silica chalk in Neuburg (Danube) . So the United Neuburger Kreidewerke Schulz & Philipp , founded in 1893, began to extract pebble chalk . The merger of the companies and the transition to a stock corporation at the beginning of 1900 was not long in coming along with economic success . The Fritz Schulz jun. AG owned the subsidiary Fritz Schulz jun. Comp. in Lincoln near New York and The Globe Polish Co. Ltd. in Stratford (London). However, these were confiscated in the First World War. That led to a big drop in sales. Thereafter only the main plant in Leipzig and the chalk mine in Neuburg as well as a participation in Fritz Schulz junior existed. AG in Aussig (Sudetengau) .
In 1949 the company was nationalized and renamed the chemical-technical company VEB Globus-Werke Leipzig . Later there were various renaming in VEB Aerosol-Automat Karl-Marx-Stadt, operating part Leipzig , VEB Wittol Wittenberg, operating part Autopflegemittelfabrik Leipzig and VEB Otto Grotewohl Böhlen, operating part Autopflegemittel Leipzig . After the reprivatisation of VEB Otto Grotewohl , production was continued under the umbrella of Sächsische Olefinwerke AG Böhlen . Then the production facilities of the former Fritz Schulz jun. AG shut down.
Managing directors
The members of the board of the stock corporation in 1942 were the brothers Fritz Gustav Max von Philipp and Dr. rer. nat. Hans Waldemar von Philipp. Fritz von Philipp was also the Royal Bulgarian Consul General, Dr. Hans von Philipp Royal Bavarian Consul General and Royal Bavarian Councilor. Both had a palace-like villa built in 1910/1911 according to plans by Otto Paul Burghardt . Of this 17-axis building in the former Kaiserin-Augusta-Straße 19 (today Richard-Lehmann-Straße ), only the monument - protected enclosure of the park area with a wrought-iron fence has been preserved. In the former park there is now a modern police station. The administration building of the Fritz Schulz junior company was located diagonally across from this large property. AG, which also housed the Bulgarian consulate and a publishing house run by F. and H. von Philipp.
The father of Fritz and Hans von Philipp, who was born in Triebel (Niederlausitz) and was later ennobled Gustav Adolph Ritter von Philipp, married Bertha Amalie Anna Schulz (1854–1907), who came from a successful Leipzig entrepreneurial family. The ashes of Gustav von Philipp, who died on July 7, 1925 in Neuburg (Danube), were transferred to Leipzig just four days after his death and buried there in the New Johannisfriedhof until the urn was moved to a crypt in the Südfriedhof in 1928 . There you can still find the grave monument made of Untersberg marble, probably created by Carl Seffner in 1927 as his last tomb creation.
Company headquarters and factory building
The company, also known as Globus-Werke , with its headquarters at Hardenbergstrasse 11 in Leipzig, owned a production building in Leipzig-Plagwitz that was built in 1897. This factory complex, which was expanded in 1905 and 1909/11, is located at Limburgerstrasse 30, but suffered considerable damage in the Second World War. The buildings, which were equipped with reinforced concrete rib ceilings that were very modern at the time, have many decorative elements on the building, of which the entrance area with a monumental atlas sculpture bearing the eponymous globe is particularly noteworthy .
The factory site has been unused since the factory was closed in 1995. The building has not undergone any renovation measures since then and now shows clear signs of decay. However, after the planned renovation, apartments are to be built in the future.
The entire building complex was extensively renovated in 2016 and today offers several residential units.
