history

Zwochau is first mentioned in a document in 1158.

Until 1815, Zwochau and its later districts belonged to the electoral office of Delitzsch .

As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the town became part of Prussia and in 1816 was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony , to which they belonged until 1952.

On April 1, 1936, the communities of Flemsdorf with Ettelwitz and Schladitz were incorporated into Zwochau.

On July 1, 1950, Grebehna and Grabschütz were incorporated, which in 1985 fell victim to open- cast lignite mining.

In the course of the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Zwochau and its districts were assigned to the newly cut Delitzsch district in the Leipzig district, which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 .

Until December 31, 2012, Zwochau was an independent municipality in the Wiedemar administrative association .

On January 1, 2013, Zwochau, Neukyhna and Wiedemar merged to form the single community of Wiedemar.

New post mill : As early as 1844, the property (today Am Sportplatz 5) was the location of a post mill . The current mill dates from 1806 and was originally located in Schkeuditz . In 1930 the drive was switched to a diesel engine. In 1936 an electric motor was added. The mill remained in operation until 1956. A comprehensive reconstruction took place in 1995. However, since the structure stood in the way of the expansion of Leipzig / Halle Airport , the mill was dismantled in 2007 and moved to Zwochau. After the reconstruction, it could be inaugurated again on the 16th German Milling Day 2009 as an operational post
mill . A special technical feature is the rare inclined stick gear.

Infrastructure

Church in Grebehna

There is an Evangelical Church in both Zwochau and Grebehna.

The Catholic Church in Zwochau was built because, as a result of the Second World War, Catholic expellees had settled in Zwochau, which had been evangelical-Lutheran since the Reformation . The church, consecrated in 1956, initially bore the patronage of Pius X. From the 1990s onwards, Delitzsch took care of the pastoral care of the church, and in 2007 it was transferred to the Focolare Movement . After a redesign of the interior carried out under the direction of the architect Elmar Paul Sommer from Monschau , it was reopened in 2011 as the Holy Trinity Church . The neighboring Focolare Meeting Center Mariapolizentrum Einheit was inaugurated in 1978 as the Episcopal Education Center St. Adalbert and expanded from 1996 by the Focolare Movement.

The Sankt Martin elementary school in Zwochau - pro Montessori is a state-recognized substitute school.

A former horse stable was converted into the Hotel Zum Gutshof .
