Frogwares is a Ukrainian development studio for computer games . The main development location is in Kiev , with another location in Dublin . The studio is known for its adventure games , especially the Sherlock Holmes series of games .

history

Frogwares was founded in 2000 by Waël Amr and Pascal Ensenat. Amr, who like Ensenat originally came from France, had moved to Ukraine around the turn of the millennium. The studio name should be a humorous allusion to the origins of the two founders, as frogs is an English abuse word for the French. At the same time, the development studio in the Ukrainian capital Kiev and a business office in the Irish capital Dublin were set up in order to be able to do business with western computer game manufacturers regardless of the strongly fluctuating domestic currency of Ukraine .

Frogwares became known for its Sherlock Holmes series , the titles of which sold around seven million times in 2017. A special feature is the deduction function, a keyword-like collection of all clues found in the course of the game, which the player can combine in order to make conclusions and thus advance the game. The studio also publishes casual games under the name Waterlily Games. The development teams for these games also work in the Kiev studio. The label focuses on casual games , hidden object games and simple adventure games for PC and iOS.

On June 27, 2019, the studio released its first open-world detective game , inspired by the works of HP Lovecraft 's The Sinking City .
