Front-light / back-light method

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The front-light / back-light process is used in particular for single image recordings with stop motion in order to prepare the mask and counter mask for the traveling matte process directly in the camera . An object to be animated (e.g. plastillin figurine, doll, etc.) is illuminated with a front light so that the background remains black, in the next film frame (forms the entire room, but only for a short moment of time (1/24 second ) ab) the irradiation is reversed so that the object appears as a non-transparent, opaque outline. In post-production, the mask and counter mask are assigned to one another in the optical printer .
