Frontiers was an American magazine for gays , lesbians and transgender people . It was discontinued in 2016 after 35 years of existence.

The magazine was published every two weeks in California , the focus was on the one hand news related to the LGBT community, on the other hand local and international coverage of topics related to HIV / AIDS .

The magazine was founded in 1981 by Bob Craig. It became the community's most popular pub newspaper in Los Angeles . During the 1980s, Craig decided to focus on the gay population. In the early 1990s, Bob introduced the "news magazine" format. The founder died in 2000. He left the company to his sister Connie. She had no public writing experience, and in October 2000 she sold a controlling stake in the company. Connie Craig remained one of the owners, along with Tom Engell, Sam Leslie, Jeff Thomas and Evan Engell.

Frontiers underwent a redesign and focused on the " Gay Lifestyle " ( German  gay lifestyle ) as well as current news in the fields of art and entertainment.

Star Trek veteran George Takei (aka Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu) chose Frontiers as the medium for his public coming out , thus setting an example against discrimination (which he experienced as a Japanese-born American in World War II and as a homosexual in several areas) and for the equal access of same-sex couples to the institute of marriage .
