Frog dose

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The frog dose (FD) is an outdated unit. It used to be used to determine the effectiveness of cardiac glycosides (e.g. digitalis ). A tree frog is injected with the smallest amount of the active substance to be determined into the breast lymph sac and it is determined whether a cardiac arrest occurs. This form of effectiveness determination was no longer used from the 1950s onwards due to the storage of defined quantities of digitalis.
