Frostbitten Kingdom was a Finnish black and death metal band from Turku that was formed in 2004 and disbanded in 2016.

history

The band was formed in the summer of 2004. The next two years were spent finding a permanent line-up before going to the Noisecamp Studio in early January 2007 to record the debut album Through Nightfall Storms and Sunless Dawns , which was released for Midsummer Festival of that year. In April 2008, an EP was released under the name Towards the Battlefields . In September of that year, the second album was recorded before it was released in March 2009 with the title Obscure Visions of Chaotic Annihilation . A new drummer can be heard on this. At the time, the band was touring various Finnish cities and could also be seen in Sweden . The band also spent 2009 rehearsing for the recordings of the third album, which was released in February 2010 under the name Infidel Angel . A week later, the group signed a recording deal with No Sign of Life Records . The album was released in concerts, among others with Bal-Sagoth , Sólstafir and Venom . In the spring of 2011, the band withdrew from the stage to be able to write new song material. The writing (and associated rehearsals) went into next year before the album The Winter War Symphony was completed in December 2012. No Sign of Life Records agreed to release the record in the spring of the following year. In the meantime, however, the label was sold and the new owner was not interested in the release. In addition, the guitarist and bassist Frostbitten Kingdom subsequently left. In spring 2014, the remaining members published the material as a demo. Then the label WormHoleDeath became aware of the group, which they signed. With this label, where previously u. a. Haterial had already released a phonogram, the album was released at the end of the year. In March 2016, Frostbitten Kingdom announced its breakup.

style

According to the band's Facebook presence, it was initially mostly influenced by groups like Dissection and Immortal . On Towards the Battlefields , the influence of American death metal bands such as Deicide and Immolation increased. Patrick Eden from metal-temple.com wrote in his review of The Winter War Symphony that this is a concept album that deals with the winter war . Musically it is a mixture of death and black metal, although influences from symphonic metal are sometimes processed. All in all, there is a mixture of “pounding” rhythms, melodic death metal passages, symphonic overtures and impressive vocals. Kai “Dagger” Kellermann from heavyhardes.de also reviewed the album and stated that it contained “anthemic Black Metal in the up-tempo sector with an eye for moving melodies”. Instead of synthesizers that are only used sparingly, guitar solos are built into every song .
