Frozen Bubble is a free computer game under the GNU General Public License that runs on Android , Linux and S60 (as a single-player version also as a Java applet ). There is also a Java version for mobile phones ( Micro Frozen Bubble ).

Emergence

Frozen Bubble was originally written by Guillaume Cottenceau. It is a strategy game based on some kind of puzzle . Frozen Bubble is a clone of Puzzle Bobble . With the exception of the server written in C , which was added in the second version and is required for multiplayer games in the network, the entire game is written in Perl , using the SDL multimedia library . The game comprises 100 levels and has a level editor.

Gameplay

The game is about the most meaningful assignment of given balls of different colors to a large number of other balls. The ball throwing machine gives the player a ball of a certain color (another ball is always visible in advance). The player must pass this ball to at least two balls of the same color on the field of play (also over boards). This assignment causes this color unit to dissolve and the number of balls is reduced. If three balls cannot be brought together, the number of balls increases. The more balls there are on the field, the more difficult it becomes to clear the field because you have less time to think about it. When the playing field is full, the game is over. The aim is that there is no more ball on the playing field. The game is operated with the keyboard. In addition, a punch presses the balls down one row at certain time intervals, i.e. H. a bit of urgency is required and there is a time limit.

Multiuser game

There is also a multi-user game from version 2.0. You can play against each other on one computer and if more than three balls fall, the opponent gets the excess number thrown into his pile of balls after his next shot, which can be very annoying, but significantly increases the appeal of the game. In addition, when the balls are pushed down from above, they are filled with new balls, which means that a multi-user game has no specified time limit. In the network (local network or internet) you can fight against each other with a maximum of five players, here the excess balls are distributed to all or passed to a specific player using F1 to F4 before a shot. If you want to practice the whole thing in peace, you will also find multi-user training for single players, where you only play against time.

In principle, there is still the option of a chain reaction in multi-user games. If balls of a different color fall down and at least two connected and incompletely enclosed balls of their color are found, they are automatically played. If balls of different colors hang on these and fall, they can in turn start another chain reaction. Unfortunately, from each step only the excess balls are passed to the others, i.e. H. each time you complete it, three balls disappear, but by moving up in rows from above (a new row every 12 shots) it remains challenging.
