S60

S60 (formerly called Series 60 ) is a graphical user interface for smartphones based on the Symbian OS . The developer company Symbian Ltd. was fully acquired by Nokia in December 2008 and then incorporated into the Symbian Foundation , a not-for-profit foundation .

Common features of all smartphones with the S60 user interface are a large color display (on the current smartphones 360 × 640 (touchscreen), 240 × 320 and 352 × 416 pixels , on earlier models 176 × 208 or 176 × 220), two softkeys , 5 -Way navigation, menu, quick access key / multimedia key (from N70) and numeric keypad as operating elements.

File transfer

Bluetooth , infrared , WLAN , GPRS and UMTS take care of file transfer . In addition, the data on an S60 telephone can be linked to the remote database of another device, e.g. via the supplied synchronization program (Synchronization / Remote Sync). B. a compatible computer or server on the Internet.

Licensee

S60 is not only used by Nokia , it is also licensed to other mobile phone manufacturers. There are currently S60 cell phones from Sony Ericsson , Samsung , Lenovo and LG . Earlier devices were developed by Siemens , Panasonic and Sendo .
