The Nokia 808 Pure View is a smartphone from the Finnish manufacturer Nokia . The specialty is the 1 / 1.2 inch camera with Carl Zeiss lens. At the Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, the device was awarded the “Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet” award. The Nokia 808 is the last Nokia mobile phone with the Symbian operating system .

properties

The Nokia 808 was unveiled on February 27, 2012 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona .

The following are special features:

  • USB On-The-Go with which you can connect any USB device (e.g. USB sticks, USB hard drives, printer, mouse, keyboard, USB lights)
  • Built-in VHF transmitter (FM transmitter), for transmitting audio signals e.g. B. to a car radio
  • A display with ClearBlack technology is supposed to offer better readability in sunlight
  • Support for near field communication

The Nokia 808 has been available in black, red and white since June 2012.

In Nokia Store more can Apps be downloaded. With the free Nokia Maps , the Nokia 808 can be used as a full-fledged navigation device. With Nokia Suite data can be synchronized between PC and smartphone. Thanks to the pre-installed Microsoft Office Mobile , documents can be created, edited and viewed in the file formats for Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel . Slides for Microsoft PowerPoint can be viewed and edited. In conjunction with the HDMI interface, the smartphone can also be used for presentations.

The camera

The integrated digital camera has a 1 / 1.2 inch image sensor with a native resolution of 7728 × 5368 pixels. In practice, recordings with around 38.5 megapixels are possible. Here the effective resolution depends on the image format 4: 3 (7152 × 5368 pixels) or 16: 9 (7728 × 4354 pixels), whereby either the full width or length of the image sensor is used. At 1 / 1.2 inches, the sensor area is larger than the better compact cameras of the time. Special graphics processors have been developed to process this amount of data. The camera supports the two modes “Pureview” and “Full Resolution”. In Pureview mode, the best information from the 41 megapixels is compressed into 3, 5 or 8 megapixels. Alternatively, a correspondingly large section can be selected for up to three or four times the digital zoom in order to enable a lossless zoom. In the full-resolution mode, the images are saved at full resolution, which are then up to 20 megabytes in size.

The camera took about five years to develop. Therefore the Nokia 808 is still delivered with Nokia "Belle" Feature Pack 1 as the operating system.

criticism

The main criticism is the unwieldiness and the fact that the 808 is delivered with the "Symbian" operating system or Nokia "Belle", which has already been discontinued.

successor

In July 2013 Nokia officially presented the successor, the Lumia 1020 . In addition to the further developed digital camera, the Lumia 1020 now has a 4.5 inch display. Windows Phone 8 is now used as the operating system . In addition, the Lumia 1020 is significantly thinner and lighter.
