- Erstfeld / Switzerland : Just two days after the crash in Ticino, another helicopter crashes in the canton of Uri, above Erstfeld. All four inmates died instantly.
- Vilnius / Lithuania : Lithuania will take over the EU Council Presidency for half a year .
- Zagreb / Croatia : Croatia joins the European Union as the 28th country .

- Baikonur / Kazakhstan : A Proton-M rocket deviates from its planned course four seconds after its launch and hits the surface of the earth just under two kilometers from the launch pad. The carrier system and three are GLONASS satellites destroyed, the same satellite - navigation system include.
- Dresden / Germany : The trial against the youth pastor Lothar König is suspended. In his hometown of Jena he has been campaigning against violence from the neo-Nazi movement since the 1980s, and because of his behavior at a rally he is accused of violating the peace .
- Paris / France : The IAU recognizes two additional moons of Pluto . The two celestial bodies with the unofficial project names P4 and P5 now have the names Kerberos and Styx .

- Cairo / Egypt : The Egyptian military removes President Mohammed Morsi and announces new elections; the chairman of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Adli Mansur , is appointed as interim president .
- Steyr / Austria : The now laic Catholic clergyman August Mandorfer is sentenced to twelve years in prison for sexual and violent assaults on 24 former students at the Kremsmünster Abbey High School .
- Vatican City : Pope Francis accepts the resignation of executives of the Istituto per le Opere di Religione (IOR, "Vatican Bank"). Apparently, the adjustment to the EU criteria for transparent banks took place too slowly.

- North Sea : The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Cameron opens London Array , the world's largest offshore wind farm at the time, off the mouth of the Thames .

- Clervaux / Luxembourg : After almost three years of closure due to renovation work, the photo exhibition The Family of Man , which is part of the world's document heritage, is reopening .
Saturday 6th July 2013
- Lac-Mégantic / Canada : A freight train loaded with petroleum products derails and explodes in the city center. At least 42 people die, the authorities reckon with 50 deaths. 2000 of the 6000 inhabitants of the place are evacuated.
- London / United Kingdom : Marion Bartoli wins the women's final of the Wimbledon Championships against Sabine Lisicki .
- San Francisco / United States : A Boeing 777 of Asiana Airlines ( flight OZ214 ) crashed upon landing at the San Francisco International Airport .
- Sichuan / China : At a celebration of the Dalai Lama's birthday , Chinese security forces used force against Tibetans in Sichuan province and injured eight people.

- Klagenfurt / Austria : With an excerpt from her novel Perhaps Esther in wins Germany living Ukrainian Katja Petrovskaya the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize 2013 .
- London / United Kingdom : Andy Murray from Scotland wins the men's singles tournament of the Wimbledon Championships in tennis against the Serb Novak Đoković , making him the first British winner of the men's singles at Wimbledon since 1936 .

- Cairo / Egypt : Clashes between Islamists and the military in Cairo kill 51 people; 435 are injured. Interim President Mansour announces parliamentary elections in about six months.
- Lampedusa / Italy : On his first trip outside Rome, Pope Francis commemorates the migrants who died on the crossing from Africa and castigates indifference towards the refugee misery.

- Barcelona / Spain : Start of the 2013 World Swimming Championships
- Canberra / Australia : Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea , Peter O'Neill , sign an agreement after asylum seekers who come to Australia by boat are deported to Papua New Guinea. The Australian government wants to deter economic refugees.
- Washington / United States : For the first time, US President Barack Obama makes a detailed statement on the discrimination against African Americans in the modern United States. The background is an acquittal for a white shooter who was charged with the death of a black teenager.

- Bogotá / Colombia : 21 soldiers and six rebels are killed in skirmishes between FARC rebels and the government army.
- Brussels / Belgium : The Belgian monarch Albert II abdicates. His son Philippe becomes the new king .
- Paris / France : The British cyclist Christopher Froome wins the 100th Tour de France .
- Tokyo / Japan : Prime Minister Shinzō Abe's coalition wins the upper house election . The governing coalition thus holds a majority in both chambers of parliament.
- Yaren / Nauru : Hundreds of refugees wreaked havoc in a reception center. The riot was in response to a tightening of Australian asylum law.

- Amsterdam / Netherlands : The Spanish telecommunications group Telefónica takes over KPN's subsidiary E-Plus . The merger with O2 creates the largest German mobile operator.
- London / United Kingdom : Birth of the first child ( George of Cambridge ) of Prince William and his wife Catherine . The baby is third in line to the British throne .

- Santiago de Compostela / Spain : A serious train accident in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia claims at least 79 deaths and around 178 injuries. An express train with the RENFE class 730 was on its way from Madrid to Ferrol when it derailed in a curve at 8:42 p.m. shortly before entering the train station in Santiago de Compostela .

- Benghazi / Libya : In a mass outbreak, around 1000 prisoners escape from a prison in Benghazi. The prison break was against the background of political tension, where protests were made against Islamists.
- Cairo / Egypt : In demonstrations by supporters of the ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi and subsequent riots in Cairo, security forces kill 72 people and injure hundreds.

- Bamako / Mali : One and a half years after the coup and civil war, presidential elections are taking place in Mali . The best results are achieved by Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta and Soumaïla Cissé , who face a runoff on August 11th.
- Monteforte Irpino / Italy : At least 38 people are killed in a bus accident and 10 are seriously injured.
- Phnom Penh / Cambodia : The ruling party suffers heavy losses in the parliamentary elections in Cambodia, but is able to defend the majority of the seats.
- Reutlingen , Tübingen , Nürtingen / Germany : A hailstorm devastated Reutlingen and other areas in the Neckar-Alb region . Thousands of destroyed roofs, house facades, solar systems and cars cause insurance losses of at least 600 million euros.
- Rio de Janeiro / Brazil : At the closing service of the World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro, Pope Francis calls on young people to become politically active and calls on the bishops to be more open to dialogue.
- Solna / Sweden : Defending champion Germany wins the final of the women's European soccer championship against Norway 1-0 and becomes European champion for the eighth time, including the last six titles in a row. The German goalkeeper Nadine Angerer saves two penalties in the final.
