  • Baikonur / Kazakhstan : A Proton-M rocket deviates from its planned course four seconds after its launch and hits the surface of the earth just under two kilometers from the launch pad. The carrier system and three are GLONASS satellites destroyed, the same satellite - navigation system include.
  • Dresden / Germany : The trial against the youth pastor Lothar König is suspended. In his hometown of Jena he has been campaigning against violence from the neo-Nazi movement since the 1980s, and because of his behavior at a rally he is accused of violating the peace .

  • Lampedusa / Italy : On his first trip outside Rome, Pope Francis commemorates the migrants who died on the crossing from Africa and castigates indifference towards the refugee misery.

  • Benghazi / Libya : In a mass outbreak, around 1000 prisoners escape from a prison in Benghazi. The prison break was against the background of political tension, where protests were made against Islamists.
  • Cairo / Egypt : In demonstrations by supporters of the ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi and subsequent riots in Cairo, security forces kill 72 people and injure hundreds.
