- Rome / Italy : The former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is sentenced to four years in prison by the highest court of appeal in Italy.

- Barcelona / Spain : The 15th FINA World Championships the FINA going to end. The most successful nation is the United States with 34 medals. The swimmers from Germany won ten medals, but once again no gold medal in the classic disciplines between 50 m and 800 m.
- Funafuti / Tuvalu : Enele Sopoaga is elected Prime Minister Tuvalus in parliament.

- Staufen / Germany : As the first of the buildings damaged by geothermal drilling , the former laundry is being demolished. The city administration last used the property from 1915 as a workshop and warehouse.

- Berlin / Germany : The Berlin-Charlottenburg district court opens insolvency proceedings for the book publisher Suhrkamp .
- Nairobi / Kenya : In the event of a fire at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport , the arrival hall and the entry area are completely destroyed.
- Nuremberg / Germany : The Nuremberg Higher Regional Court orders the retrial in the Gustl Mollath case . The legal force of the judgment issued in 2006 and thus also the basis for Mollath's placement no longer apply with this order . He must be released immediately.

- Prague / Czech Republic : The House of Representatives has withdrawn its confidence in Prime Minister Jiří Rusnok . The House can appoint another politician to form a government in the next few days, otherwise parliament is imminent.
- Washington, DC / United States : The American Amazon founder Jeff Bezos buys the daily newspaper Washington Post .

- Vienna / Austria : For the first time since the beginning of the weather recordings, 40.6 degrees in Neusiedl am See in Burgenland and 40.5 degrees in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg in Lower Austria have exceeded the 40 degree mark.

- Mainz / Germany : As a consequence of massive train cancellations in the Mainz area, railway boss Rüdiger Grube dismisses a high-ranking manager. The restrictions in train traffic are caused by insufficiently staffed dispatcher positions and are continuing.
- Munich / Germany : FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach open the 51st season of the Bundesliga in Munich's Allianz Arena .

- Birmingham / United States : In Alabama , an Airbus A300 of the cargo airline UPS Airlines crashes on a meadow near Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport . Both pilots die.
- Cairo / Egypt : After escalation of violence with hundreds of deaths between security forces and supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi interim president imposed Adly Mansour the state of emergency over Egypt. Vice-President Mohammed el-Baradei has announced his resignation in protest against the violence.
- Mumbai / India : At a shipyard in Mumbai, several explosions occur on the INS Sindhurakshak submarine , causing a major fire. The boat sinks in shallow water while the fire works; 18 trapped sailors die.

- Baghdad / Iraq : At least 30 people died in a series of attacks in front of the American embassy and the Iraqi State Department.
- Beirut / Lebanon : At least 17 people die and 120 others are injured in a Shia bomb attack in the suburbs of Bir el-Abed and Roueiss .

- Cebu / Philippines : At least 50 people die in a collision between a freighter and the ferry St. Thomas of Aquinas .

- Moscow / Russia : Completion of the World Athletics Championships 2013 - At the end of the World Athletics Championships in Moscow, the Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt won his third gold medal. With a total of eight gold and two silver medals since 2007, he is the most successful participant in World Cup history.

- Dhamara Ghat / India : In a train accident involving pilgrims to the Katyayani Temple , at least 35 people die on the Rajya Rani Express near the Dhamara Ghat station in Bihar state .
- San Diego / United States : The Mexican former boss of the drug cartel Tijuana Eduardo Arellano Félix is sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the District Court of Southern California .
