The Lithuanian Council Presidency designated the presidency of the Republic of Lithuania in the Council of Ministers of the EU for the second half of 2013. It thus continued the trio Council Presidency of Ireland , Lithuania and Greece . It is the first Council Presidency of the country that joined the EU in 2004 .

The website of the Lithuanian EU Council Presidency is available in the three working languages of the European Union - German, English and French, as well as in the official language of the Republic of Lithuania, Lithuanian (see also the official languages of the European Union ).

Priorities of the Lithuanian EU Council Presidency

During the EU Council Presidency, the country wants to set its own priorities on the subjects of energy security , the EU strategy for the Baltic Sea region , bringing the countries of the Eastern Partnership closer to the EU and managing the EU's external borders . In addition, the European economic government is to be promoted and the EU's multiannual financial framework for 2014–2020 is to be concluded.

Like the Council Presidency of Ireland in the first half of 2013, Lithuania is using its own logo . The logo shows four different blue concentric circles , which are interrupted at the top right by three lines (yellow, green, red - flag of Lithuania ), which seem to disturb the perfect circular shape. Due to this disruption, the circles optically interlock again and intertwine them into a unified whole. "The colors of the logo are reminiscent of Lithuanian relations with the Baltic and North Sea regions and the blue stripe of the flag of the European Union signals the common values and achievements".

To the right of the logo, the Lithuanian Council Presidency is indicated with the words: "Lietuvos pirmininkavimas ES Tarybai" (Lithuanian EU Council Presidency) and the year 2013. In another variant of the logo, the website of the Lithuanian Council Presidency www.eu2013.lt is listed below the logo instead of the lettering and the year .

The basic concept of the logo was selected from more than 600 proposals in an open competition in 2011, designed by Simona Mykolaitytė and revised by graphic artist K. Zilinskienė, which changed some details and added the element of the mesh. The logo was presented on May 10, 2013 in Vilnius at the kite festival “Europos vėjai” (“The Winds of Europe”) with the participation of the Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė .
