Priorities of the Greek EU Council Presidency
The priorities of the Greek Council Presidency were presented to the Cabinet of Ministers on August 7, 2013 by the Greek Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos and adopted unanimously. These are:
- Development, employment, cohesion ;
- Deepening the EU integration of the euro zone ;
- Migration, borders, mobility;
- the sea .
The European Parliament discussed the results of the Greek Council Presidency on July 2, 2014 with the Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras in the plenary session . Samaras has seen positive results from the Greek Presidency.
- the progress of the banking union,
- improving border and immigration management and
- laying the foundations for more jobs and growth
cited. Samaras said, among other things: " Europe has worked. Our Union has problems, but it also has the capacity to solve these problems and move forward ". Greece and the whole of the EU had faced serious challenges in the past three years. But people everywhere in the European Union have also shown solidarity and the ability to change something and become more competitive.
logo
Unlike the previous Trio Council Presidency Spain / Belgium / Hungary, neither Poland / Denmark / Cyprus nor currently Ireland / Lithuania / Greece use a common logo . The Greek logo combines European and local symbols in a stylized form. The graphic part of the logo represents a ship on a blue, gray or black background. The stylized symbols (sails) and U (hull) symbolize the European Union (EU) and the blue color for the sea , which is also for Greece Central to Europe, and was and is an essential element of Greek life and history. Several color variants of the ship and the background are possible and the combinations are specified. Other elements that can be added to the logo in the large version reproduce the relief of the Greek mainland and the coastline. A semicircle is intended to indicate the European Parliament and the ancient theater.
The letter combination GR has the same meaning as the official abbreviation of Greece (for example in the list of national vehicle symbols ). In connection with the year 2014 and the abbreviation eu , reference is made directly to the Greek EU Council Presidency in 2014.
To the right of the logo, below the letters "eu", reference can be made to the Council Presidency in Greek and / or English: "Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union".
