The Nokia N8 is a smartphone from the Finnish company Nokia . Special features of the N8 include the integrated camera from Carl Zeiss with 1 / 1.83 inch image sensor and Xenon - flash that comes close to full-fledged digital camera and a HDMI interface. Released in October 2010, the device was Nokia's first Symbian ^ 3 cellphone.
Functions
Nokia introduced the N8 through a video on April 26, 2010. It was released in October 2010 and is the successor to the Nokia N97 and Nokia N86 . In addition to the 1 / 1.83 inch camera, there are other special features that only a few mobile phones offer:
- USB-On-The-Go function, with which you can connect any USB device (e.g. USB sticks, USB hard disk, printer, mouse, keyboard, USB lights).
- Mini HDMI connector for connecting e.g. B. to a television.
- Built-in FM transmitter, for transmitting audio signals e.g. B. to a car radio.
- Offline synchronization with the PC.
- Alarm clock that works even when the device is switched off.
The display is made of particularly scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass and the housing is made of anodized aluminum . The N8 was initially available in the colors silver-white, dark gray, orange, blue and green, later also in pink and bronze.
The ARM11 processor is clocked down from 772 MHz to 680 MHz in order to increase the battery life. The device can be charged via the microUSB port as well as via the 2 mm charging port (Nokia standard). It contains an RDS radio receiver; TV can be received via a headset using the DVB-H standard.
The Nokia Store (formerly Ovi Store) made a large number of other software available for download. With the free Nokia Maps , the N8 can be used as a full-fledged navigation device; Maps can be saved to the N8 via Nokia Suite , the cellular network or WiFi, and they can also be used offline. The Nokia Suite can also be used to exchange data between a PC and smartphone.
One advantage is that the battery can only be changed by loosening two Torx screws and a plastic clip.
In the event of a system crash, the device can be restarted by pressing the power button for about eight seconds, which also works in the event of a system crash.
Firmware updates
In April 2011 Nokia announced an update of the operating system to Symbian Anna . Since August 18, 2011, Symbian Anna can be obtained using the device's own update mechanism or external software ( Nokia Suite or Nokia Software Updater). The new Nokia Belle operating system has also been available since February 2012, an unofficial copy that has been circulating on the Internet for several months. Nokia says it wants to publish two more versions of Symbian - Nokia Carla and Nokia Donna - even if the name “Symbian” is no longer used.
On August 28, 2012 Nokia released a "Nokia Belle Refresh" update for all first generation Symbian ^ 3 devices. The Nokia N8 has a number of special image editing applications. With Microsoft Office Mobile , a complete Office package with a spreadsheet , presentation program and word processor was also part of the update.
successor
Nokia Vice President Eric Bertman announced at a launch event for the Lumia 800 in Russia that Nokia would release a much improved successor to the N8 in 2012.
On February 27, 2012 Nokia then presented the Nokia 808 PureView as its successor at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona . The Nokia 808 has a 1 / 1.2 inch camera with a larger sensor area than the better compact cameras of the time.
Trivia
