Foot powders are powdered substances that are used to soak up sweat and deodorize the feet. The mineral bases of foot powders are talc , magnesium carbonate , zinc oxide and colloidal silica . Additions of hexachlorophene and alum are used to remove odors . Camphor , salicylic acid and boric acid have a disinfectant effect . Added menthol has a cooling effect on burning feet. In addition, the foot powder are oftenfungicidal agents added to prevent or combat athlete's foot .
