Buffardin was appointed solo flutist of the Saxon royal-electoral orchestra in Dresden on November 26, 1715 . Buffardin was Johann Joachim Quantz's teacher for four months . Furthermore, Johann Jacob Bach , a brother of Johann Sebastian Bach , was his pupil, whom he had met in Constantinople . Quantz has made statements that highlight the extraordinary virtuosity of his playing. Buffardin must have enjoyed great esteem at the Saxon court , as his salary was doubled in 1741.

Buffardin was retired on June 23, 1749 and soon after moved with his family to Paris.

Works

His “Flute Sonata” is considered the only definitely authentic work . He is also credited with a “Concerto for Flute in E minor” and another Concerto in F minor, which is among the anonymous pieces of music by the Dresden court orchestra .
