Fucosylation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fucosylation is a post-translational modification , in which a fucose to group proteins is appended.

properties

Fucosylation is a form of glycosylation of proteins. Fucosylation is catalyzed by fucosyltransferases . Altered fucosylation is a biomarker for cancer . Defects in the genes of fucosylation lead to LAD syndrome type II, in which selectins can no longer bind to an altered P-selectin glycoprotein 1 (PSGL-1) and thus leukocytes have impaired cell adhesion (no rolling of leukocytes along the vessel wall) and the Affected people have increased bacterial infections.
