Fujiwara no Akimitsu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fujiwara no Akimitsu ( Japanese 藤原 顕 光 ; * 944 ; † 1021 ) was an official from the influential Fujiwara family during the Heian period in Japan . He held the post of Minister on the Left ( Sadaijin ). His father was Fujiwara no Kanemichi .

Akimitsu is said to have been involved in a strange story related to his daughter. This daughter, Enshi, was the wife of the emperor's son Koichijō. When Koichijō decided to take a daughter of Fujiwara no Michinaga as a second wife, Enshi was very upset and asked her father for help. She died of grief shortly afterwards. Akimitsu is said to have asked a Buddhist monk named Dōman ( 道 満 ) to curse Michinaga. Akimitsu was therefore also known as Akuryō-safu ( 悪 霊 左 府 ), "the safu (alternative name of Sadaijin ) with evil spirits".
