- December: Emperor Romanos I is deposed by his sons in agreement with co-emperor Constantine VII . In the power struggle that ensued, Constantine was finally able to prevail. He makes Bardas Phokas the highest general in the east of the Byzantine Empire . His nephew Leon Phokas becomes the military governor of Cappadocia .

- Abū Yazīd Machlad ibn Kaidād continues his revolt against the Fatimids in Ifrīqiya . He conquered several cities, including Kairouan on October 15 , where he had the Fatimid commander and the Ismaili Qadī of the city executed. He then besieged the caliph al-Qa'im bi-amri llah in al-Mahdiya . However, this can assert itself in its capital with the help of the fleet.
