Harshavarman II.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Harshavarman II († 944 ; also Brahmaloka ) was king of the Khmer Empire from 941 to 944 . Like his father Jayavarman IV (928-941), he resided about 120 kilometers northeast of Angkor in Lingapura , today's Koh Ker and not in Yashodharapura (Angkor) or in Hariharalaya (Roluos).

Life

Harshavarman II succeeded his father Jayavarman IV (928-941) to the throne in 941. An inscription indicates that he was not the designated heir to the throne. Presumably he seized power with the support of his cousin Rajendravarman II . Harshavarman II's reign in Koh Ker lasted only three years; it is questionable whether he died of natural causes. His cousin Rajendravarman II, who once helped him to the throne, took power and moved back to the old capital Yashodharapura (Angkor). None of the numerous temples in Koh Ker can be traced back to Harshavarman II.

Harsharvarman II was posthumously given the name Brahmaloka.
