Brouilla ( Brullà in Catalan ) is a place and a municipality in the south of France with 1,437 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the Occitania region .
Location and climate
The town of Brouilla is located at an altitude of about 45 m on the northern edge of the Albères massif and is about 16 km (driving distance) south of Perpignan . The beaches of Argelès-sur-Mer are only 16 km to the east. The climate is temperate to warm; Rain (approx. 595 mm / year) falls over the year with the exception of the summer months.

Despite the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the loss of jobs due to the mechanization of agriculture , the place recorded constant population growth, triggered by its proximity to Perpignan.
economy
Traditionally, the residents lived as self-sufficient food from their (wine) fields and from a little cattle-raising (sheep, goats, chickens). The wines produced in the municipality today are marketed through various appellations . Since the middle of the 20th century, there has been income from tourism in the form of renting holiday apartments ( gîtes ) .
history
Celts , Romans and Visigoths left no traces on the municipality. The first mention of the place name Brulianum comes from the year 944.
Attractions
- The Romanesque parish church of Sainte-Marie is one of the rare churches with a three-conch choir ; it has been recognized as a monument historique since 1972 . Their equipment is also remarkable.
