Maureillas-las-Illas ( Morellàs i les Illes in Catalan ) is a French commune with 2,544 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the Occitania region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Céret and the canton of Vallespir-Albères . The inhabitants are called Maureillanais (es) (Catalan: Morellasesos ).
The municipality includes the localities of Las Illas , Riunoguès , La Selve and Saint-Martin-de-Fenollar .
geography
Maureillas-las-Illas is on the Spanish border . Maureillas-las-Illas is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Jean-Pla-de-Corts in the north, Le Boulou in the north and northeast, Les Cluses in the east, Le Perthus in the east and southeast, La Jonquera (Spain) in the southeast, La Vajol and Agullana (both Spain) in the south, Maçanet de Cabrenys (Spain) in the southwest and Céret in the west.
The A9 car route runs through the municipality .
