Bretteville-l'Orgueilleuse is a former French commune, located in the Calvados department in the Normandy region . It belonged to the arrondissement of Caen . The community last had 2,577 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013), who are called Brettevillais .

Bretteville-l'Orgueilleuse is about twelve kilometers west of Caen .
The municipality of Bretteville-l'Orgueilleuse was surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Secqueville-en-Bessin in the north, Rots in the east, Saint-Manvieu-Norrey in the south, Putot-en-Bessin in the west and Sainte-Croix-Grand-Tonne in the northwest. The Route nationale 13 passed through the municipality .
history
From June 26 to 30, 1944, British units carried out Operation Epsom here to gain a foothold in Normandy. The battle ended in a strategic Allied victory despite higher losses.
On January 1, 2017, the municipality of Bretteville-l'Orgueilleuse was merged with Brouay , Cheux , Le Mesnil-Patry , Putot-en-Bessin and Sainte-Croix-Grand-Tonne to form the new municipality of Thue et Mue .
