The municipality was surrounded by Putot-en-Bessin in the north, Bretteville-l'Orgueilleuse in the northeast, Saint-Manvieu-Norrey in the east and southeast, Cheux in the south, Fontenay-le-Pesnel in the southwest, Cristot in the west and Brouay in the northwest Direction.

Le Mesnil-Patry was first the scene of heavy fighting on June 11, 1944 as part of the “Battle of Le Mesnil-Patry”, a failed British offensive attack on German defenses in the municipality, in which a total of 300 soldiers were killed on both sides . Le Mesnil-Patry and surrounding communities did not fall into Allied hands until two weeks later as a result of Operation Epsom , a renewed British-Scottish-Canadian offensive during Operation Overlord .
On January 1, 2017, the municipality of Le Mesnil-Patry was merged with Brouay , Bretteville-l'Orgueilleuse , Cheux , Putot-en-Bessin and Sainte-Croix-Grand-Tonne to form the new municipality of Thue et Mue .
