L'Albère ( Catalan L'Albera ) is a French commune with 80 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Pyrénées-Orientales department of the Occitania region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Céret and the canton of Vallespir-Albères .
geography
The municipality is located around 25 kilometers south of Perpignan on the Chaîne des Albères mountain range , which forms the eastern foothills of the Pyrenees . It extends in the south to the border with Spain . Neighboring municipalities in France are:
- Montesquieu-des-Albères and Villelongue-dels-Monts in the north,
- Laroque-des-Albères in the northeast,
- Le Perthus in the southwest and
- Les Cluses to the west.
The main town of the municipality is called Saint-Jean-de-L'Albère . A variety of mountain streams drain the community area in a northwest direction to the Tech River .
Transport links
L'Albère is away from national transport connections, as road ( A9 motorway ) and rail in the neighboring municipality of Le Perthus use the Col de Perthus mountain pass on the way to Spain.
