Montescot is a town and municipality in the south of France with 1,712 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in what is now the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the Occitanie region . The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Céret and the canton of La Plaine d'Illibéris (until 2015: canton of Elne ). The inhabitants are called Montescotois .

location

Montescot is located about ten kilometers south-southeast of Perpignan in the old cultural landscape of Roussillon . The Agulla de la Mar (or Agouille de la Mar ) runs through the municipality to the Mediterranean Sea, the coast of which is nine kilometers to the east. Montescot is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Villeneuve-de-la-Raho in the north, Corneilla-del-Vercol in the east, Elne in the south and south-east, Bages in the west and Pollestres in the north-west.
