Latour-Bas-Elne ( La Torre del Bisbe in Catalan ) is a French commune with 2,797 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the Occitania region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Céret and is part of the canton of La Plaine d'Illibéris (until 2015: canton of La Côte Radieuse ). The inhabitants are called Torrellans .
geography
Latour-Bas-Elne lies in the Salanque landscape between Perpignan (about twelve kilometers northwest) and the Mediterranean coast (about three kilometers east). Saint-Nazaire is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Cyprien in the north and east and Elne in the south and west.
The municipality is part of the Côtes du Roussillon wine-growing region , where, among other things, the sweet wine Muscat de Rivesaltes is produced.
