Politics and world events
East Franconian-German Empire
- Beginning of the year: Archbishop Warin of Cologne hands over as guardian for the newly crowned three-year-old King Otto III. his protégé according to the kinship law to his uncle Heinrich the quarrel , who has just been released from Ottonian captivity. There is no contradiction to this, because both his mother Theophanu and his grandmother Adelheid and aunt Mathilde are still in Italy . Heinrich, on the other hand, strives for the German royal crown himself.
- Heinrich the quarrel was elected king in Saxony and was supported by Duke Mieszko I of Poland , Duke Boleslav II of Bohemia and the Abodritic Prince Mistiwoj . The West Franconian King Lothar , who after the death of Otto II resumed his aggressive policy towards the East and occupied Verdun , also supported Heinrich. But the Frankish nobles, led by Archbishop Willigis of Mainz and Konrad von Schwaben, are not prepared to question Otto's succession to the throne.
- June 29th : At the Reichstag in Rohr in Thuringia, Heinrich the quarrel, who shuns a military conflict, hands over King Otto III. to his mother Theophanu , who together with her mother-in-law Adelheid of Burgundy takes over the reign of the empire .
Kingdom of León
- Ramiro III. von León loses his throne to Bermudo II. However, after his proclamation as king, he is forced to place himself under the protection of the Caliphate of Córdoba , as internal uprisings and pressure from the county of Castile make it impossible for him to deal with all these problems to deal with alone.
