Buluggin ibn Ziri

Zīrī b. Manād aṣ-Ṣanhāǧī , tooبلقين / Buluqqīn ; † 984 ) was the first ruler of the Zirids in Ifrīqiya . His predecessor as ruler of Ifriqiya was Abu Tamim al-Muizz from the Fatimid dynasty .

Even under the governorship of his father Ziri ibn Manad , Buluggin ibn Ziri took over government duties. So he founded the cities of Algiers , Miliana and Medea , or had the destroyed settlements rebuilt. After the death of Ziri ibn Manad in the fight against renegade Berbers , Buluggin took over the governorship of Algeria in 971 and defeated the Zanata tribes . The prisoners were largely relocated to the Ashir residence.

When the Fatimids moved their headquarters from al-Mahdiya to Egypt in 972 , Buluggin ibn Ziri was appointed viceroy in Ifriqiya. New residence of Zirids has now Kairouan or the nearby el-mansuriya . However, the Fatimids took the state treasure and the fleet with them to Egypt, so that the rule of the Zirids first had to be consolidated. Due to the lack of a fleet, however, control over the calbites in Sicily was lost. During a campaign to Morocco , Buluggin advanced to the Atlantic , where he also fought the Bargawata . The fortresses of Ceuta and Tangier were able to be held by the Caliphate of Cordoba . However, he died in 984 while returning from this campaign. He was succeeded by his son al-Mansur ibn Ziri († 995).
