Crescentius de Theodora († 984 on the Aventine / Rome ) came from the Crescentier dynasty, which ruled Rome at the end of the 10th and beginning of the 11th century, and was a Roman patrician and an influential politician at the time of Emperor Otto II.

Life

Crescentius de Theodora is sometimes referred to as Crescentius I , which means that his son Crescentius I Nomentanus must then be listed as Crescentius II. He was the son of Johannes Crescentius and Theodora II of Tusculum and brother of Pope Johannes XIII. His marriage to Sergia had two sons, Crescentius I. Nomentanus and Johannes I. Crescentius , Count of Terracina .

Crescentius de Theodora was the leader of a revolt against Pope Benedict VI in 974 . which led to the election of the antipope Boniface VII . However, the revolt collapsed with the intervention of Otto II and Boniface VII first had to flee to Byzantium . For Crescentius, however, this failure had no major direct consequences and his family continued to be an influential figure in Roman politics.

Crescentius de Theodora died as a monk in the monastery of SS. Bonifacio e Allessio (Alexius Monastery) on the Aventine in Rome.
