993 : The first canonization in church history ( Ulrich von Augsburg ) is given by Pope John XV. proclaimed.
996 : Under the government of King Otto III. In the Holy Roman Empire, the birth of Christ becomes the year 1 of a new era “after the birth of Christ” (Latin anno Domini “in the year of the Lord”). This idea, which is plausible from a Christian point of view, goes back to the abbot Dionysius Exiguus, who lived in the 6th century .
