Funicular de Larreineta

Funicular de Larreineta (also known as Funicular de Trapagaran ) is a funicular in Valle de Trápaga-Trapagaran in the Spanish Basque Country about 15 kilometers northwest of Bilbao .

history

Opened in September 1926 funicular served in the early years of the material transport of iron ore - mine of La Arboleda and was later rebuilt for the pure passenger. The old wagons are in the Basque Railway Museum in Azpeitia .

The single-track funicular with a passing point and a track width of 1200 mm is 1198 meters long with a height difference of 342 meters. The three-phase asynchronous motor with an output of 150 hp drives the approximately 7,000 kilogram traction sheave for the wire rope with a diameter of 34 millimeters via a transmission. The hoisting machine system was developed by the Swiss company Gesellschaft der Ludw. von Roll'schen Eisenwerke AG , the electrical equipment with the drive motor for an operating voltage of 450 volts was supplied by BBC . Today's two cars are approved for 80 people with a total mass of 10.3 tons and were manufactured by the Spanish commercial vehicle manufacturer "IRIZAR".

Escontrilla is the valley station. The otherwise straight route describes a right curve in the upper part of the route in front of the Larreineta mountain station . The operator is the railway company Ferrocarriles Vascos, SA ( EuskoTren ). In 1994 the EuskoTren administration decided to renovate the route, overhaul the vehicles and paint them in the company's blue color. The number of journeys is around 100,000 passengers annually.

At the valley station there is a bus stop operated by the Bizkaibus and CuadraBus bus companies, which serve the nearby towns by shuttle service.
