content

In Fear , Bob Woodward paints a "devastating picture" of the president and reports of "frightening conditions". Woodward quoted Trump's chief of staff, John F. Kelly , who reportedly said of the president among staff: “He's an idiot. There is no point in trying to convince him of anything. He's derailed. "

For the book, Woodward conducted over hundreds of hours of interviews with mostly unnamed confidants of Donald Trump and other people.

Reactions

The Washington Post published a recording and transcript of a phone call Trump made with Woodward before the book was published. Woodward had spoken to the US President on the phone after completing his book manuscript. The journalist had previously tried to get an interview with Trump, but it did not materialize. Trump said in the phone call, after the book was already written, that no one had informed him of Woodward's interview request. During the conversation, the President also expressed the expectation that the book about him would be negative. But Trump tried to dismiss that as irrelevant. "So I have another bad book," said Trump.

Spiegel Online published details after the American edition on September 11, 2018.
