Furioso polka

The Furioso Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 260). The work was first performed on September 14, 1861 in Pavlovsk , Russia.

Remarks

This work, nicknamed Quasi Galopp , was written in the summer of 1861 during the composer's annual trip to Russia and was premiered there. The polka was presented to the public in Vienna on November 17, 1861. Musically, it is a controversial composition among the audience and unusual for Johann Strauss. The work often oscillates back and forth between different major and minor keys and therefore deviates from the familiar Strauss sound. The otherwise fast-paced polka appears almost like a quick polka and represents a musical joke by the composer who wanted to confuse his audience with the unusual sound described above. He succeeded too. Incidentally, the polka should not be confused with the work of the same name by Johann Strauss (father) (op.114).

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 23 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
