The Furudake ( Japanese 古 岳 , "old peak") is an active stratovolcano on the little inhabited Japanese island of Kuchinoerabu-jima in the prefecture of Kagoshima .

The 657 m high Furudake, together with its southern neighboring crater, the 626 m Shindake ( Japanese 新 岳 , German “new peak”), forms the island volcano Kuchinoerabu-jima.
location
The Furudake is located in the south of the island of Kuchinoerabu-jima, about 17 km northwest of Yakushima , with which it belongs to the Ōsumi Islands , and 70 km southwest of Kyushu .
