The Shindake ( Japanese 新 岳 , dt. "New peak") is an active stratovolcano on the little inhabited Japanese island of Kuchinoerabu-jima in the prefecture of Kagoshima .

The 626 m high Shindake, together with its southern neighboring crater , the 657 m Furudake ( 古 岳 , "old peak"), forms the island volcano Kuchinoerabu-jima.
location
The Shindake is located in the south of the island of Kuchinoerabu-jima, about 17 km northwest of Yakushima , with which it belongs to the Ōsumi Islands , and 70 km southwest of Kyushu .
outbreaks
- On May 29, 2015, there was an eruption with an ash cloud up to 9 km high (the eruption began around 1 a.m. UT on that day). According to media reports, there was at least one injured.
