Gängeviertel (Königsberg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gängeviertel was a small district in Königsberg i. Pr. Before 1905 it was demolished .

location

Before 1905, where the Unterrollberg met the Unterlaak , there was the Gängeviertel with a boardwalk , Steinergang , Bobossengang , Schlickengang and Schlangenwinkel . The boboss gang was named after the local beer bar by Emanuel Poboss . When the Gängeviertel was demolished in 1911, the name officially changed to Flinsenwinkel .

Lens angle

Königsberg had three angles: the oldest was at the Old Garden, which was cut off from the Wet Garden by the ramparts from 1626 ; this impasse "was often used in the dark". The second was the cul-de-sac in the Gängeviertel south of the Große Sandgasse; officially it was called Schlangenwinkel, then Thomasgasse. The third was Kehrwiedergasse on Friedmannstrasse west of the garrison hospital.

Also Darkehmen , Gerdauen , Heiligenbeil and Wehlau had Flinsenwinkel. They got their name from the many piles that reminded the East Prussians of Flinsen .
