A fermentation balloon (also called fermentation barrel) is a large, usually balloon-shaped glass (usually up to 25 liters) or plastic vessel / plastic barrel with a capacity between 5 and approx. 55 liters. In the private sector, barrels over 260 liters are seldom common. It is used for the fermentation of must , fruit juice or honey ( mead ). For fermentation, the filled fermentation balloon is closed with a fermentation tube and a stopper or cork .
