Güllener Ring

As Guelleners ring one is Wallenburg at Linnepe now part of Sundern in Hochsauerlandkreis in North Rhine-Westphalia called. The abandoned complex probably came from the 9th or 10th century.

description

The Güllener Ring ramparts are located about 800 meters south of Linnepe on the northern slope of the Dümberg at an altitude of 440 to 460 meters. The round main castle was about 55 to 60 meters in diameter. This part is enclosed by a strong wall and an external ditch. In the north there is a smaller outer bailey , which is also secured with a wall and moat . The only access to the main castle was from the northwest through a cheek gate, through which the castle can still be entered today. The height of the ramparts today, seen from the inside, is two to three meters.

Remains of the ramparts and moats have been preserved. The numerous stones lying in the area are likely to have come from a ruined wall in the rampart. The height of the inner wall is still two to three and a half meters today, the trench is between five and six meters deep.

A smaller section wall with an outer trench is about 100 meters to the south.

The complex has been under protection as a ground monument since 1978 . The Güllener Ring is one of the Carolingian-Ottonian castles.

So far there have been no excavations in the complex.

The name “Güllener Ring” is probably derived from “ Gülte ”, “Gilte” or “Valid- / giltbar”, which means something like subject to interest. “Gülte” also stands for payment, debt, levy or income, hence the terms valid , valid , guild and money . The levies in kind were delivered and stored in the Güllener Ring ramparts from the surrounding farms subject to interest.

Say Güllener Ring

In 1989 the local researcher Rudolf Salingre published his findings on the legend of Güllener Ring . The saga was not documented in writing until 1989 and was therefore missing in collections of sagas about the Sauerland. The legend has only been handed down in fragments. The legend is about a golden cradle buried in the slurry ring . The legend is about a shepherd who had almost grabbed the golden cradle with the shepherd's shovel . Then the call rang out The sheep are in the grain . And the cradle disappeared. The devil is said to have taken them.
