Gülsel Özkan (* 1966 in Malatya , Turkey ) is a German film director and screenwriter.

Özkan began studying film at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg in 1987 , which she graduated with honors. She has been working as a freelance filmmaker, dramaturge and producer since 1989, realizing documentaries and features for ARD, arte, NDR, WDR, BR, DW Phönix, H3, MDR and SFB as well as international broadcasters such as Spain TVE, 3sat and Planet France. Özkan also works as a director and screenwriter for documentaries and feature films. Her films have been broadcast internationally and have been nominated several times.

Özkan has been working with Ludger Pfanz on new dramaturgical models since 2012. With a combination of classic media and film dramaturgy, they developed storytelling for "space-time narratives" and "space-time experiences" for new digital, multimedia, transmedial and interactive media.

Özkan also works as a jury member and jury president at many national and international festivals, including the "Türk Film Festival" in Mannheim / Heidelberg, the "Ökofilmfestival" in Freiburg, the "African International Woman Film Festival" in Harare , and the "CEVE Festival" in Beijing and won the VR Festival in Nanchang .

Gülsel Özkan is the managing director of Future Design Company GmbH (previously Planet Film GmbH) and artistic director of the Beyond Festival, which has been taking place in Karlsruhe since 2011 .
