Günter Oesinghaus

Günter Oesinghaus (born August 4, 1943 in Wahlscheid ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and former member of the German Bundestag .

Life

Oesinghaus attended the Catholic elementary school in Wahlscheid and then the secondary school in Cologne, from which he graduated with a secondary school leaving certificate. He then trained as an insurance salesman and worked in this profession for several years. After a special examination for talented students, he was admitted to the Cologne University of Education in 1967. In December 1970 he passed the first state examination for teaching at primary and secondary schools, followed by the second state examination in February 1972. Then he worked as a secondary school teacher in Cologne. After six months of military service, he was recognized as a conscientious objector.

Oesinghaus joined the SPD in 1969 and was the local association chairman from 1975 to 1986, and from 1977 to 1991 also a member of the SPD sub-district executive committee in Cologne. He is a member of the education and science union in the DGB and the youth organization of the SPD “Die Falken”. In 1987 he was directly elected to the German Bundestag with 51.6% of the vote in the Cologne IV constituency. In the following years he was always directly elected to the Bundestag. From 1994 to 1998 he was a full member of the Transport Committee and a deputy member of the Finance Committee. From 1998 to 2002 he was a full member of the Committee on Affairs of the European Union and a deputy member of the Committee on Transport, Building and Housing. In 2002 he also resigned from the Bundestag.
