Günter Reich (chemist)

Günter Reich (born February 21, 1928 ) is a German chemist . For many years he was director of the research institute for leather and synthetic sheeting in Freiberg , Free State of Saxony .

Life

Günter Reich studied chemistry at the Technical University of Dresden , where he did his doctorate and habilitation under Professor Fritz Stather . In 1967 he was appointed director of the German Leather Institute. In this role he played a key role in the newly initiated research into the development of artificial leather. In 1973 this institute was renamed the Research Institute for Leather and Artificial Leather Technology Freiberg. Additional research areas such as special materials, thermoplastic polymer processing and environmental protection as well as waste product recycling were added later.

From 1974 Günter Reich was honorary professor at the Technical University of Karl-Marx-Stadt .

From April 1992 to August 1993, Günter Reich was the managing director of the Research Institute for Leather and Plastic Sheets, a non-profit company in Freiberg. He then passed the office into younger hands and continued to work as an industrial consultant and science journalist.

Günter Reich is married and has two sons.

He has published over 180 publications and owns around 50 patents of which he is the author or co-owner. He has imparted his experience and knowledge to young academics as a lecturer and since 1974 as honorary professor at the TU Chemnitz.

On the occasion of his 75th birthday in Freiberg on February 21, 2003, the work Vom Kollagen zum Leder was published with an artificial leather cover and gold embossing . Collected papers by Prof. Dr. Günter Reich in Reutlingen at the Leather Research Association.

Awards

In 1975 he received the National Prize of the GDR III. Science and technology class.

In 2013 Günter Reich was honored for his life's work with the Merit Award from the World Association of Gerfield Chemists and Technologists.
