Günther Reich

Günther Reich , also Günter Reich (born November 22, 1921 in Liegnitz ; † January 15, 1989 in Heidelberg ) was a German-Israeli opera singer ( baritone ), who primarily interpreted the works of Arnold Schönberg in collaboration with Michael Gielen and Pierre Boulez is known ( Moses and Aron , Kol Nidre, A Survivor from Warsaw ).

Life

Reich came from a Jewish family. In 1934 she left National Socialist Germany and settled in Palestine . After the Second World War and the founding of the State of Israel , Reich was initially active in various ways, without particularly focusing on singing. In 1958 he returned to German soil and settled in the Federal Republic to study first in Berlin and then in Mannheim. Finally, he made his debut in 1961 as Jago at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen. In 1968 he became a member of the Stuttgart Opera , in the 1970s he made guest appearances on all major stages in the world, including as a Wagner baritone ( Hans Sachs and the like). His collaboration with Gielen and Boulez dates back to this decade and was immortalized both on phonograms and on film ( Moses and Aron von Straub-Huillet ).
