Günther Commission

The Günther Commission was set up in May 1967 by the federal government as a commission of inquiry to “investigate the threat to the economic existence of press companies and the consequences of concentration for freedom of expression in the Federal Republic of Germany ”. The commission was named after its chairman, Eberhard Günther , who was also President of the Federal Cartel Office at the time . The occasion was the sometimes violent student protests against the Springer press.
