Eberhard Günther
Eberhard Günther (born December 25, 1911 in Bad Freienwalde (Oder) , † October 25, 1994 in Kelkheim ) was a German lawyer, non-fiction author and government official. From 1958 to 1976 he was President of the Federal Cartel Office .
Life
Eberhard Günther was born the son of a district court president. He studied law and did his doctorate at the University of Freiburg with Professor Erik Wolf . He then worked as a lawyer from 1938 to 1939 . From 1939 to 1947 he worked in the legal department of nitrogen syndicate GmbH in West Berlin .
In 1948 Günther became deputy head of the central office for manning requirements . From 1948 to 1949 he initially worked in the administration for the economy of the United Economic Area , then from 1949 to 1958 he worked in the newly founded Federal Ministry of Economics in Bonn , where he was given civil servant status and under Economics Minister Ludwig Erhard from 1948 to 1950 Special section " Decartellization " and from 1950 to 1958 headed the section "Cartels and Monopolies". He played a major role in the 1957 Law against Restraints of Competition .
In 1958 Günther was appointed (first) President of the newly created Federal Cartel Office, which was then based in West Berlin. He held the office until 1976 when he retired. His successor was Wolfgang Kartte .
In May 1967, the then federal government appointed Günther as chairman of the commission of inquiry for the "investigation of the threat to the economic existence of press companies and the consequences of concentration for freedom of expression in the Federal Republic of Germany". The commission became known as the " Günther Commission " based on its chairman .
Günter died at the age of 83.
