Life

Günther Grotkamp is a lawyer and joined WAZ-Verlag in 1960 as legal advisor and head of personnel. In 1971 he became an authorized representative of the Funke Family Society under Jakob Funke , the co-founder of the WAZ. Together with Erich Schumann , the adoptive son of the second WAZ founder Erich Brost , he pushed the expansion of the media group, especially in the 80s and 90s. From 1975 to 2000 he was managing director of the WAZ media group.

He has been married to Petra Grotkamp , one of Jakob Funke's three daughters , since 1986 . Together with her sisters Renate Schubries and Gisela Holthoff , she owned 50 percent of the shares in the WAZ media group until the end of 2011 (see below) and bundled them in the Funke Familiengesellschaft (FFG).

In June 2001, Günther Grotkamp had before the investigative committee of the Bundestag for the CDU donations scandal testify. In December 2000, he had three transfers (two for 33,000 euros, one for 34,000 euros) from one account in one day. He testified that he was not asked by the CDU to give the large donation in denominations , but that this was done for tax reasons and because the family wanted to circumvent the obligation to publish. Not he himself is the donor, but his wife Petra and his two sisters-in-law.

Günther Grotkamp advises his wife on legal issues. She sued her sisters to ensure that the shares in the Funke Familiengesellschaft (FFG) remain and are not sold to Erich Brost's heirs .

In January 2012, Petra Grotkamp acquired the shares of the Brost heirs and since then has had a two-thirds majority in the newspaper group, which was renamed Funke Mediengruppe in 2013 .
