Günther Haase (diver)

Günther Haase (born June 11, 1925 in Hamburg ) is a former German water diver who won the Olympic bronze medal in diving in 1952.

Haase was German vice-champion in diving in 1941 and 1942. In 1943 he won his first German championship title. After the war he won from 1947 to 1951, and in 1949 he also became a master of the 1-meter board and the 3-meter board. In 1955 and 1956 he won twice more from the tower.

In 1950 Haase became European champion in high diving. At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , he was able to confirm his rank as the best European. He won the Olympic bronze medal behind the American Samuel Lee and the Mexican Joaquín Capilla .

Haase began his career at TV Hamburg-Eppendorf . He came to Post SV Hamburg via SC Hamburg-Eilbeck , for which he competed until 1947. After two years at SV Neptun Erkenschwick , he started in 1950 for SV Neptun Lüdenscheid .

Haase married the ten-time German champion in art and high diving Paula Tatarek (1923-2014).
