Günther Mohr

Günther Mohr (* 1956 in Cochem ) is a German non-fiction author specializing in organizational psychology, coaching, consulting and transaction analysis.

Career

Mohr developed the “systemic organizational analysis” model. With the model of the “ten dynamics” of organizations, an organizational unit, regardless of whether it is a work group, a department or a company, is to be analyzed in order to then systematically develop and change it. According to their own information, this model is used in some companies. The model is also used by other consultants and coaches.

Günther Mohr is the founder and head of the Institute for Coaching, Training and Consulting in Hofheim am Taunus (2001). Between 2001 and 2007 Mohr was a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA). Mohr is a senior coach in the German Federal Coaching Association (DBVC), where he is a representative of systemic coaching as well as the connection to personnel, organizational and cultural development. In 2009 Mohr received an award for public awareness of the German Society for Transaction Analysis (DGTA) and in 2015 the DGTA Science Prize. Mohr has been a delegate in the Council of the European TA Society (EATA) since 2016. He is also a reviewer for the International Journal for Transactional Analysis Research and Practice.

In addition to his work as a coach and systemic consultant, Mohr learns and teaches the teachings of Zen . He dedicates himself to the topic of how the transmission of psychological knowledge is presented in other cultures. In Islam there are Sufi stories, in Zen the koans and other doctrinal stories and in Indian Advaita Vedanta the stories of holy men. Every story has seven truths.

Model of the ten system dynamics

According to Mohr, ten central dynamics are at work in a company or organization, which in the ideal case can reduce the complexity of the system without over-simplifying the relationships. This classification enables an organization to be assessed appropriately and the decisive points for influencing the system to be found. Because the dimensions in a company are not static but are constantly changing processes, Mohr speaks of dynamics. In addition, the effects of the dynamics are evaluated in relation to the previous, the previous or ideal ideas. The concept of system dynamics was developed against the background of the existing recognized systemic organizational concepts. The substantive approaches by Eric Berne (1979), Peter M. Senge (2001), Stafford Beer (1994; 2001), Niklas Luhmann (2000) and Bernd Schmid (2003) serve as the basis for this further development.

The ten system dynamics are:

  1. attention
  2. roll
  3. System relationships
  4. communication
  5. Troubleshooting
  6. success
  7. Balances
  8. Recursiveness
  9. External pulsation
  10. Internal pulsation

With these dynamics, the expert as well as the insider of a system can grasp its essential characteristics. In the system dynamics are in the dynamics of attention. First, the elements of the basic ideas (purpose, strategy ...) of a company are recorded. It is always about what has actually been experienced. Structural elements become very clear in the dynamics of the roles as well as the external and internal pulsation (the boundary lines of an organization). More cultural elements show the dimensions of relationship, communication, problem solving and success. Special systemic relationships consider the dynamics of equilibria and recursivity ("degree of repetition of the same principles"). This results in a total of ten system dynamics in four fields. Specific questions can be used to determine the characteristics of each dimension for a specific organization.

In the systemic organizational analysis (SYSTOA), the dynamics are presented that are decisive for organizations in the sense of critical to success. Businesses and other organizations are made up of people and their reactions. The systemic organizational analysis provides an answer to how these are to be recorded in the overall system. With this model, they systematically record the phenomena that often appear like an inscrutable chaos in everyday life. It also shows the starting points for changes.

Coaching and self-coaching

Today coaching is an important instrument with which people get support in order to cope with the complex world of economy and society. With the six-perspective model (image of man, personality, relationship and communication, contextual reference and construction of reality, development and change, professional methods), Mohr further developed the theory and practice of coaching individuals. His model serves to structure an integrated professionalism.

Systemic economic analysis

In 2015 Mohr extended the model of system dynamics to the economy (systemic economic analysis). Using the 10 system dynamics, he looks at the basic economic processes and compares development proposals for the individual dimensions such as the economy of the common good or the unconditional basic income.

The five world model

In the five-worlds model, building on Bernd Schmid's three-worlds model, he describes two additional world references from the organizational, professional and private world: the community world and the consumer world. This provides a model for observing and further developing a person's attitudes, especially for issues relating to life balance, social commitment and ecological changes (climate crisis).

The house model of problem solving

The house model visualizes a solution process for coaching and collegial consulting processes in two stages. It is based on considerations by Friedmann Schulz von Thun (practical advice), Peter Senge (right and left side) and Steve de Shazer (previous solution ideas) and leads first through a problem house and then a solution house. The problem house contains a recording of the situation from the client's point of view in terms of context, goals, behavior, thoughts and feelings. The solution house first identifies the client's attempted solutions and ideas, supplemented by the effect and success they have had so far. In many cases this results in very fruitful insights for the client and sometimes good solution ideas have not been pursued consistently enough. Depending on the need, the coach or the group in the collegial counseling situation can give further suggestions. The conclusion is the question of the next step that the client wants to consider based on the consultation nine.

Systemic transaction analysis

Transactional analysis (TA) is sometimes accused of having no theory and simply consisting of a collection of tools. In the 2020 volume "Introduction to Systemic Transaction Analysis of Individuals and Organizations" Mohr presents a systemic, relationship-oriented metatheory for TA and describes the basic concepts and procedures of TA for the individual and the multi-person constellation (organizations, institutions, politics) from this perspective.
